Sinforoso Ramos - Tarqui Cup 6th Place - Filter Coffee

Sinforoso Ramos Valensula has a 2.5 hectare farm in El Triunfo called El Paradiso. His parents started working in coffee when he was young, aged 20 he left home to work as a picker. He set enough money aside to purchase El Paradiso in 2013.

Last year Eddie was fortunate enough to be one of the judges in the Tarqui Cup hosted by Nordic Approach and Fairfield Trading. The competition is a fantastic way for small producers to connect with roasters from all over the world. El Paradiso placed 6th with an average score of 86.98 points. The price for coffee in Colombia has been below the cost of production at times, and around the time of this competition the price per ‘Carga’ 125kg of coffee was 800.000 pesos. We are delighted to have paid 1.5 million pesos per carga for this coffee 1.8 times the commodity price.

After picking the cherry with his brothers it is left for 12 hours before de-pulping, then it dry ferments for another 32 hours before washing 3 times.
