Shembati #2 - Filter - Washed Coffee

Weights1kg, 250g

The Shembati washing station is one of two washing stations built in 2016 by the coffee producer Salum Ramadhan. The washing station is located in province of Kayanza in the hills of Butaganzwa commune where the farmers all own their small holdings. Shembati is a medium sized operation and will receive around 700 tonnes of cherry per season.

The picking season starts in march with the peak being in May. Then the washing station is in full flow, farmers are free to sell cherry to the highest bidder. Salum has a selective cherry program in place and works closely with the community to encourage quality farming and quality cherry. Premiums are paid above the market prices to improve year on year. Alongside this Salum is investing in social and environmental projects such as eduction in the local areas and ponds for waste water.

We have bought coffees from Burundi since we started seven years ago and we always adore their deep flavour profiles with complex florals and chunky fruits.
