Sambewe AB - Espresso - Washed Coffee

This stunning Tanzanian coffee is harvested by a co-op made up of 344 farmers in the area surrounding the river of Sambewe. The cherries are harvested by local families who deliver daily to the washing station. Here the coffee is washed, graded by density, pulped either by hand or using a de-pulper and then soaked in tanks for 8-12 hours before being moved to drying tables.

Thanks to the coffee trading company Ibero, the community surrounding Sambewe is well taken care of. They have built schools and educational facilities and offer classes within coffee production this has helped to increase yield and coffee quality. This also helps to prepare the coming generations of coffee farmers for things such as climate change. They also plan to invest heavily in conservation by planting more shade trees to combat global warming, this helps to nourish the soil and create a healthy biodiversity and we are delighted to help further these projects. These farms have a clay loam soil and farmers manage the land and trees with minimal intervention, with organic composts being used.
