Aquiares Estate is one of the largest and most historic farms in Costa Rica. It is situated on the incredibly rich volcanic soil of the Turrialba region. Alfonso Robelo began to turn the tides for the farm back in the 1980s. His visionary approach transformed the relationship between land owner and farm workers. Alfonso saw an opportunity and evolved the farm into a small town where workers purchased their own homes. Nowadays, Aquiares remains a model of sustainable agriculture.

Today, Alfonso’s son Diego manages the farm. We have a wonderful relationship with Diego and this is the 5th year in a row we have purchased coffee from him, as always it is tasting incredible. Diego has steered the farm to approach specialty coffee differently. The farm has excellent agricultural management, embraces new varieties, and experiments with processing. Aquiares is now a trailblazer among specialty coffee producers in Costa Rica and all of Central America.
