Juan Saldarriaga is a young coffee producer who took over his family farms a few years ago. We have established a solid relationship with Juan these past three years and are rapidly forming a love affair with his coffee from La Claudina. He chooses to call his washed coffees from the farm La Claudinota.
La Claudina is a short drive from the city of Bolivar in Antioquia, the farm is very steep and rises quickly from the valley and seems to always be flooded in sunlight. The farm is planted with Caturra, Castillo, Tabi, Variedad Colombia and even Geisha. Farm manager William Laverde lives on the farm and during the height of the season Juan will employ 45 pickers, and out of season the farm employees 3 permanent staff. We admire Juan for his hands on approach, he lives by the farm, works the land, processes the coffee and is always cupping!
Juan’s approach is very aligned with our values and also with that of our importer Nordic Approach. His export company Tierra de café helps many other farmers both large and small have access to a cupping lab, mill and the potential to export their produce around the world.
