This is just the first year of production for the Bulambuli washing station, which was only built last year, and an exciting time for us to get involved in a new project. This coffee comes as a result of a three-way collaboration between a local land owner/entrepreneur (Ben Mukhone), local exporter and 2 coffee importers. One of the main aims for this was to produce coffees that are fully traceable.
The washing station is located in Bulambuli town in Mt. Elgon, east Uganda. As this is the first year of harvest, coffee production is limited and we’re very lucky to have secured a small amount of this lot! All cherries taken to the washing station come from smallholder communities that are looked after by Ben, he is responsible for staffing, production and daily operations at the washing station.
The station is currently only producing washed and natural process coffees in its first year with a view to potentially expanding to more experimental processing techniques in the upcoming years. This is one to look out for, we’re really excited to be a part of this project from its early days and look forward to seeing where it goes in the future!
