Here we have yet another showcase of what Colombia has to offer, this time a beautifully clean, washed coffee from the region of Huila. It comes from the farm La Esmeralda, owned and run by Norbey Quimbayo which has 5 of its 12 hectares dedicated to producing coffee with the remainder used for growing plantain and fruit trees.
Norbey initially worked as a picker across different farms when his career in coffee began. In 2005 he was given the opportunity to buy a fraction of La Esmeralda and in 2010 Norbey started planting and growing exotic varieties such as Gesha, Papayo and Pink Bourbon. By growing these varieties he entered the world of Speciality Coffee production where he has not only received premiums for his coffee but also gained international recognition for what he’s been able to achieve. Norbey has honed his knowledge of processing techniques and farming practices which has aided him in producing such high quality coffees.
Caturron comes from a rare mutation of Caturra which possesses the special ability to resist leaf rust, it produces a high yield but only in 2016 was it discovered as having an exotic cup profile. The coffee was fermented underwater for 30 hours before being pulped and washed and left to dry, we hope you enjoy this micro-lot as much as we do!
