Bulambuli is a district in Eastern Uganda, near the Kenyan border on Mt. Elgon. In 2022, Ibero Uganda built the Bulambuli Washing Station so that smallholder farmers in the surrounding area could pulp, ferment and dry lots that are then bought by importers such as Nordic Approach. Ibero is an export company that specialises in Ugandan coffees with a mission to market the quality coffee the country has to offer whilst ensuring maximum benefits for the producers they work with.
The facilities at the washing station are managed by professionals who focus on achieving optimal results in quality and flavour profiles. They work with between 200 & 400 farmers who grow similar varieties to those found in the neighbouring country Kenya, SL14, 28 and 34 being the most common. Their farms are generally less than 1 hectare but have ideal terrain and climatic conditions for growing speciality grade coffees.
Naginzole is a mango-loving bird that the indigenous Benet say predicts coming rainfall. The bright, intense naturals from the Bulambuli washing station with their rounded tropical fruit notes lend themselves to this name. This is only our second year buying coffees from Bulambuli but we love them and hope to keep buying them for years to come.
