Waylan Origin is a coffee organisation based in Planadas, Tolima. Founded in 2015 by Edinson Vaquiro with help from Volcafe, the organisation’s primary purpose is to promote and develop coffee locally. They achieve this through knowledge sharing between farmers and working with agronomists to improve farming practices as well as the processing of cherry. These improvements as well as the kind of collective bargaining that comes with forming a slightly larger collective have enabled them to be more selective with who they sell to and now a large part of their production goes to specialty buyers, ensuring them prices far above commodity.

The municipality of Planadas is the third most important in Colombia in terms of coffee production and with good reason, the topography and climate are both excellent. Planadas has lots of mountains (21) and a peak altitude of 2350 meters above sea level. The high altitude and volcanic soil is perfect for growing high quality coffee.

Waylan Origin has contributed to social and economic development in Planadas and helped grow the reputation of coffees from the region on the global stage. This is our first time buying from Edinson Vaquiro’s company, it almost certainly won’t be the last.
