Nyeri Hill Farm is a coffee estate spanning 344 hectares, in Nyeri County at 2000 masl. Established in 1904, the farm first produced coffee in 1914 and is now owned by the Archdiocese of Nyeri. Over 80% of this historic estate’s coffee is the prized SL-28 variety, alongside Ruiru-11 and Batian. The farm operates two processing stations, Nyeri Hill and Kamwenja - this coffee’s namesake.

Sustainability and social impact remain at the heart of the farm. Investments in innovation and infrastructure include a drip irrigation system to counter the less than ideal rainfall in the area (around 950mm annually) utilising water recycling. 90% of the workforce are from the local community, and large amounts of the estate is left as natural forest to encourage biodiversity.

Coffee trees on the farm are replaced every 6 years, with younger trees grown in the farm’s own nursery. Older trees can be less resistant to dis- eases so by swapping them out for younger plants, this helps to maintain high yields and limit the number of disease affected crops.
